The North Eastern Region of India has a rich cultural heritage and it is reflected in the crafts and weaves of the various tribes and communities of each of the eight states. To preserve the uniqueness of the traditional craft products of the region and to encourage the craftsperson to look for market beyond their territorial boundaries, the governments have made interventions through various capacity building and market linkage programmes. The evolving e-commerce craft platform offers an opportunity to these artisans and weavers to market their produce to craft lovers across the globe. It is against this backdrop that the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) , Guwahati , a development finance institution of the region, has initiated a study with an objective to facilitate online marketing to the craftsperson of the region. The North East Craft Conclave-2017 has been organised by NEDFi from 2nd to 5th March 2017at NEDFi Convention Centre, Guwahati, Assam to facilitate interaction among the key stakeholders. The 4 day event will have exhibition as well as workshops with focus on promotion of craft marketing and capacity building.
The North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) has undertaken a study to facilitate direct linkage of the region's artisans and producers to the e-commerce platform. "The study, to be carried out over five months, involves collection of data from handicraft and handloom producers and aggregators across the Northeast. Contact details of producers and product specifications such as photographs, dimensions and weight are being documented and the same will be shared with the e-retail firms at a regional workshop-cum-exhibition here during the first week of March," Ashim Kumar Das, the deputy general manager of NEDFi, told The Telegraph today.
